Kameleo: A local engine for testing

Kameleo: A local engine for testing. Purpose, access conditions, limitations and official sources.

What is Kameleo used for?

Kameleo manages browser environments, including through code. Official downloads distinguish Windows, macOS and Docker; container support does not mean a conventional desktop client exists for every Linux system.

What to check before setup

Plan capacity around concurrent browsers, not just saved profiles. With your own test application, verify engine startup, the chosen automation client's connection and resource release when the process ends.

Download Kameleo from the official website

On the project’s download page, choose the build for your operating system.

Check the website address. Follow the developer’s instructions for verifying the file’s signature or checksum.

Getting started with Kameleo

  1. Open the official download page and check OS, architecture and current subscription terms.
  2. Create a test profile without work passwords or payment details.
  3. Check session persistence and member permissions; verify routing separately if adding a proxy.
  4. Test access revocation and test-data deletion before moving work accounts.
  5. Record renewal dates and confirm how to cancel the subscription before relying on the service.

Limitations and data protection in Kameleo

The local API and profile data need access controls. Container deployment adds storage and network permission considerations. Reviewing documentation does not replace testing compatibility with your version of Playwright or another client.

This is a review of public documentation, not an installation test, security audit or performance benchmark.

Alternatives for related tasks

For one work login, consider an ordinary separate browser profile first. If you only need a different network route, compare proxy services; they do not isolate cookies. Keep passwords and recovery codes in a separate vault.
