AES Crypt: review, download and setup
Encrypt individual files with AES Crypt and verify that you can decrypt them before sharing.
What is AES Crypt used for?
AES Crypt encrypts individual files with password. For Windows, the developer shows the work through the context menu; the download page has desktop and team options for different platforms.
Current desktop and server releases are offered with a trial period and a license. Android is purchased separately. Do not transfer the conditions of the old versions to the current download.

Prepare an encrypted copy to share
Start with a copy of a small document. After encryption, open the result through the decryption and compare the recovered file to the original. The recipient must have a compatible program and a correct password.
Transfer the password with a separate trusted channel. The encrypted file does not cancel the existence of an open original, time copies and files in the cart. Check what exactly the addressee is going.
Download AES Crypt from the official website
Select the supported platform on the project page. The link leads to the selection of the distribution, and does not start the installation automatically.
Use the official download address. Check the signature or checksum if the project publishes one. Keep secret configuration files private when contacting support.

Limitations and data protection in AES Crypt
Loss of the password can make the content inaccessible. Save it in the password manager and leave a secure backup.
It's file encryption, not full disk encryption. The file names and environments may disclose additional information.
Alternatives for related tasks
VeraCrypt is convenient for an encrypted volume, and AES Crypt is for individual files. For the archive with several files, you can compare the capabilities of 7-Zip, given the name protection.
