What is Tunnelblick used for?
Tunnelblick is an OpenVPN graphical client for macOS. It connects to the server on the finished configuration and shows the tunnel state in the menu bar. The program is suitable for accessing work resources or your own network when the administrator has issued an OpenVPN profile.
The client does not issue a VPN server and does not include an Internet subscription. Before installation, find out where the profile is received, what networks it opens and what certificates it uses. The download page has a separate stable and test builds; for normal work, choose a stable version compatible with your macOS.

How Tunnelblick uses OpenVPN
The configuration determines the server address, the authentication method and the routing parameters. Certificates and private keys can be located next to the profile or inside it. Store the whole set as access data, not as a regular instruction: the publication of the profile in an open discussion can reveal secrets.
After installing the connection, open exactly the resource for which the VPN is configured. Access to the internal server and the access of the entire Internet through the tunnel - different modes. Separately check the name resolution: the successful connection status does not mean that the desired DNS server is used by the browser and other applications.

- Get an OpenVPN profile and login data from the server owner via a trusted channel.
- Import the configuration and learn requests for rights and installation of components.
- Connect, open the desired resource and check DNS and routes according to the task.
- If you erroneous, save a small log fragment without secrets; then shut down and check the usual connection.

Limitations and data protection in Tunnelblick
Do not disable the certificate check for the loss of the connection error. The reason may be the wrong time, an outdated profile, or a server change. Check the log message with the administrator and replace the configuration through the trusted channel.
VPN does not fix the infected computer and does not confirm the integrity of the owner of the output server. After updating the macOS or client, repeat checking DNS, routes and behaviors in the break: the previous result cannot be automatically transferred to the new configuration.
Alternatives for related tasks
Tunnelblick is useful for OpenVPN on Mac. OpenVPN Connect is another client of the same family of connections, and WireGuard uses another protocol and its own profiles. You can not transfer the OpenVPN file to WireGuard as a ready-made setup.

No, this client is designed for macOS. For Windows, select a separate supported OpenVPN client.
Where to get a VPN profile?
The administrator of your server or the selected VPN provider. Installing Tunnelblick by itself does not create it.
Why is the VPN connected and the site does not open?
Check availability of the target service, routes and DNS. The connection status does not confirm the operation of each application.
